What African Countries do most African Americans come from?

Since the so called “white” Americans proudly trace their origin to various European countries, it would be nice, also, if Black Americans could do the same. I realize that slaves that came were robbed of their culture and many African Americans would have hard time researching such geneaology, but it would still be interesting to at least pinpoint a general area and maybe go and see how life there is.

White Americans often go the the UK on vacation to check out their roots and many other go to see some other “old country”(ies).

However, there is no such big movement among Black Americans to see where they come from and go and learn about all those countries their ancestors had been brought from.

Would be nice to do some study, learn about which countruies these are, organize tours, learn about the culture there, etc.

Well i’ve heard friends say that they’ve looked online and been able to find some famous ancestry. I’ve searched and searched and can’t find a website that will actually find famous relatives for me. About.com and similar websites have told me to do all this elaborate records checking, etc. I want to find out if i am related to a specific celebrity, where can i find that out? I’ve tryied geneaology and ancestry.com, and either they cant do it, or i don’t know how. I don’t want to have to make an elaborate family tree, i just want to be able to enter my name and find out, that kinda thing, quick and easy, not someone that’ll take me more than a few minutes.

Thanks a lot, help is appreciated.

Is there a geneology website that helps you figure out if you might possibly be related to a celebrity?

I need a hand held scanner to read Library reference book pages for reseach in genealogical endeavors, so I don’t have to check out the books and copy this information by hand. Any weblinks to same would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have some questions concerning Geneology or DNA testing?

I understand the basics and limitations but I still have a few questions. Will the test be able to determine a trace of possible African or Native American blood? Will the test be able to track my mother’s paternal geneology without any males? Will the test give me percentages and possible names of different groups that I am decended from? What test would you recomend?

What genealogical filing system do you use/recommend?

I want to give each of my relatives an I.D.# for filing and organizing hard copies of their data and cross-referencing, but I haven’t found a ready made organization system I like. Ahnentafel is fine for ancestors but hard to use for steps/siblings/half-siblings, etc., though I do use a modification I’ve made called “Marital Ahnentafel” with a sort of decimal/letters type classification system (based on the SuDocs call numbers for government docs if you’re familiar) that works pretty well, but before I adapt that I’m curious if there’s a better one already out there.
Thanks for any suggestions.
